Class Note Sarah Cifarelli Wellen 3/20/2020
I met my husband, Rick Wellen, a war veteran, at Adelphi in September of 1947. He dropped out for a few years, and after we were married in Feb. of '53, he returned to finish his degree at Adelphi and graduated in '55. I had graduated in Jan., '51 under the name of Sarah Cifarelli and continued graduate work at Adelphi, after which I taught English at East Meadow High School. Although my husband was five and one half years older than I, he liked to joke that I was older than he! We were married for 50 wonderful years before he died in '03, and raised and educated four children, three girls and a boy. Unfortunately, the third daughter died in an accident 29 years ago.
Rick and I were both English majors and members of the Round Table. I opted to teach, he opted to write and did so for five years before joining the family business. After staying home for 16 years raising my children, I started a second career in the field of English as a Second language, teaching at Manhattanville College, IBM in Yorktown, and privately. My second career was as rewarding as my first and I am still in touch with students from both experiences! Now, at 90, I bask in the love of my three surviving children and three grandchildren.

My years at Adelphi were very rewarding and enjoyable and more so because I met my Valentine there! The friendships I made at Adelphi proved to be lasting and loving. Some friends have already died, but the memories of our time together at Adelphi will last me until the end!

In Remembrance of Things Past,

Sarah Cifarelli Wellen
