Class Note Sarah Cifarelli Wellen 9/4/2018
Thank you for the invitation to celebrate "Adelphi Ever After" on Oct. 12, 2018. Unfortunately, the love of my life, Rick Wellen, died 15 years ago, and i am too old to make the solo trip. I thought, however, that you might like to know that my years at Adelphi for both undergrad and grad work were very rewarding and enjoyable, and the fact that i met my husband, a returning war veteran at Adelphi adds to the great memories I have of those years. My husband and I were married for 50 adoring years and together, we raised and educated four children, one of whom died in accident 27 years ago. Rick and I were both English majors and members of the Round Table, the English honor society. I became a high school English teacher at East Meadow High School and at a school in Puerto Rico, while my husband was a writer for a number of years before going into the family business. After raising my children, I started amy second career in the field of English As a Second Language, teaching at Manhattanville College, at IBM in Yorktown, and privately. It was a most gratifying experience, and after visiting many of my students in their native countries in South America, I am still in touch with some. Now, at 88, I bask in the love of my three surviving children and three grandchildren.
I would like to add that the friendships my husband and I made at Adelphi proved to be lasting and loving. Some of our friends have already passed on, but the memories of our time together at Adelphi will last me though my lifetime.
May your day celebrating Adelphi Sweethearts be a success; I wish I could be there!

In Remembrance of Things Past,

Sarah Cifarelli Wellen
